After Coro won the toss and batted, Kyle and Dean Bennett came to the crease looking to get their side off to a strong start.
It didn’t go as planned as a mix up between the brothers saw Kyle (2) run out by Oliver Bartter with the score on just five.
Ben Signor joined Dean Bennett at the crease, and the pair got their sides inning moving in the right direction with a 97-run partnership before Harry Rowston was able to make the crucial breakthrough picking up Signor (32).
Lucas Conlan came out and scored quickly with Bennett in a quickfire 46-run partnership for the third wicket to see the score reach 149 before Rowston (2/22) struck again to remove Conlan (20).
While Bennett (100 ret.) was still at the crease, the run-scoring continued for the Cougars, and even a 15-minute delay after the lights went out wasn’t enough to deny him a hundred.
Jack Hutchinson (14*) added runs late in the innings to see Coro finish their 35 overs with a massive total of 5/203.
Ben Rowston and Oliver Bartter were able to get their side off to a good start with a 51-run opening partnership before trouble struck for Hanwood.
When Jack Rand picked up the wicket of Oliver Bartter (22), Hanwood lost five wickets for 13 runs as Angus Bartter (2), Harry Rowston (1), Ben Rowston (26) and Jordan Whitworth (0) all fell in quick succession with Rand (2/8) and Hutchinson (2/10).
When Tom Bartter (9) fell to the bowling of Cooper Rand (1/2), Exies Oval fell dark once again as the lights went out with Hanwood sitting on 6/84.
It was decided to bring the game to a close with Hanwood requiring 119 runs off the final 48 deliveries which gave Coro to win based on their higher run rate.
This could be the first of three trophies picked up by the Cougars in the GDCA finals as their first and second-grade sides prepare for their respective finals this weekend.
