Leeton was the host of the Lions Youth of the Year zone final earlier this month/
Competitors in 2018 were Benjamin Cattle (West Wyalong), Lucas Burton ( Narrandera), Elouise Campbell (Griffith) and Thomas Breed (Coleambally).
What happened
The day was broken up into two sessions.
During the morning the participants faced a panel of judges, made up of Anthony Morton, John Collins, Jay Richards and Lena Broso, who questioned them on their personal interests, general knowledge, sporting, cultural and academic achievements and community involvement.
In the afternoon the participants showed their public speaking abilities by responding to two impromptu questions each with a two-minute time allowance and a five-minute prepared talk on the topic of their own choice.
Who won?
Results for the day: Elouise Campbell took out the public speaking and Thomas Breed was the overall winner.
What is Youth of the Year all about?
It is a prestigious event for young people, which boasts many high profile Australians among the ranks of former entrants, including former politicians Kevin Rudd and Peter Beattie.
