The CoD program is a Hockey NSW U11-U13 development initiative designed to provide high-level coaching and individual training plans to junior athletes to further develop their core skills through the off-season, but at the same time have fun and meet new friends.
This was the first program of its kind for Griffith Hockey which allowed our athletes to participate and train locally rather than having to travel to Wagga. The high-level coaching has reflected in the tremendous improvement seen in the athletes that have participated. The program was also about providing pathways for our juniors so they can mature and develop in the sport with the correct level of support and coaching.
“The program was well supported by myself as the local coach, Pat O’Donnell as the WWCHA RCC and HNSW who provided further training resources.” said local CoD coach & Junior Development Officer, Andrew Sinclair.
The program culminates with “The Regional Challenge” held at Narellan Hockey Complex in Sydney this year and is the carnival that wraps up the CoD program. It allows junior athletes to put their talents on show in a fun yet competitive environment and with a focus on continued development. The challenge attracts over 900 players so our athletes are excited about playing some great hockey and put all they have learnt on display. Griffith will join athletes from Wagga and the North Coast to represent the ‘Northern Storm’ at the event across U13 & U15 age divisions in both girls and boys.
The athletes that participated in the local CoD program this year were Will Allen, Tanner Cassidy, Aaron Dawson, Ross Dilks, Caitlin McCarthy, Daniel Morris, Matthew Pastro, Ben Sinclair, Aliyah Wallace, Callan Wallace & Anthony Whelan.
GHA’s 2018 junior season will be kick off with a Come & Try for free day at West End Oval on Saturday 7th April at 11am-1pm with the competition starting on Saturday May 5.
Andrew Sinclair, GHA’s Junior Development Officer is looking for more juniors to take up the sport
“Just come and give hockey a try, we are an inclusive support that provides dedicated and individual coaching resources to promote kids in all age groups through the sport of hockey. We are a very safe sport with training drills and games customised to both age and ability.” Sinclair said. “Hockey is great fun, you can make new friends and with our depth of resources from Hockey NSW and development pathways, we provide an opportunity for all players to progress through the sport to various levels.”
New and existing players are encouraged to join GHA on their come & try day.
