The under 18s team have won two of their three games so far, however coach Jarrod Crane believes they are still a long way off their full potential.
“It was a pretty scrappy game with a lot of errors and disciplinary penalties, but we got there in the end,” Crane said.
“The best thing about having the two wins is that we still haven’t played our best footy yet.
“When we can put that together I think we will be a more than capable team.”
Rebounding from a two-point loss to Western, Riverina just held off a late charge from the Canberra team.
Crane is still looking for a full 70-minute effort with two important games before finals.
“We went to sleep for a while there and Monaro brought their fight back,” he said.
“If we can put a 70-minute performance together it will go a long way to us making the finals.”
Meanwhile, Riverina’s Andrew Johns Cup team suffered another loss.
The under 16s are yet to taste success following a 22-8 defeat to the Colts.
Riverina will now take on Penrith in Harden on Saturday.
