Jones saw this as a perfect chance to give back to a club who had helped up him when he first arrived.

“I have been here before and coached the under 18s, so first grade is always a good opportunity to get going again,” he said.

“Wests were the club that brought me over here, so it was a no-brainer when they asked.”

Wests capped off what was a difficult season for them last year with a 3-1 win over Griffith City Two after goals to Michael Walker and two to Gavin Wylie in the consolation final.

Jones knows there is quality on the list and hopes to move the club forward.

“They are a good club, and they have had a hard run over the last couple of years,” he said.

“There are some really quality players in this team so when they asked it was never an option it was always going to be me coming back.”

While club looks good on paper, it has been hard for Jones to assess his side’s full potential.

“It's a bit hard at this time of year with everyone doing vintage,” he said.

“We have a strong side on paper, so it is about getting everyone in as soon as vintage is over and have everyone at training.

“Weekend games will be good mid-week is pretty hard for everyone, but they can still build off the back of winning the consolation final last season.”

Along with the squad at the club from last season, there will be a few new additions to the squad to help them push up the table.

“There are a few more guys around,” he said.

“A couple of players have come back who use to play for the club, and I have brought in a couple myself as well.”

Jones who is also playing in Wagga for the Wagga City Wanderers and has been able to find a balance between the Wanderers and West Griffith.

“We will train over here on Wednesday and training in Wagga on Thursday with all Wagga's games being on Saturday and Wests on Sunday,” he said.

“It is a big workload, but it is about giving back.”
