This week a quarter of century ago was a massive one in Griffith sport. There were swim carnivals, a major touch football tournament, softball, regional soccer and a triathlon – where people actually swam in Lake Wyangan.
Let’s have a look at who made headlines as summer turned to autumn in 1993:
Jenny McRae, playing for Bertoldo squared off against Peruzzi’s Janine Zalunardo in the woman’s division one grand final.
Deonne Zanotta was captured diving into the pool at the Wade High Swim Carnival.
Yoogali Soccer Club was the only NSW team to take part in Victoria’s Dockerty Cup, but they had to do it without Sam Nardi (pictured above), who had NESL premiership commitments.
Lachlan White’s hard hitting for a club called the Raiders was captured in the local softball competition.
Helen Roach was noted at the leading women at the Sunday Club triathlon, which also included swimming in Lake Wyangan.
