Planning for the project is expected to last until late 2018, but there is not yet word on when actual construction will begin.
The federal government committed $4.4 million to the widening of the intersection, with the NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) matching the funds.
When the money was committed in October 2016, then-Member for Murray Adrian Piccoli put forward an 18-month timeline between the allocation of funding and the beginning of major construction.
Member for Murray Austin Evans said the intersection isn’t a straightforward fix due to the complex location.
“There are a lot of things that need to be taken into account … They are locating all the services to incorporate them into the final design. It’s about working out what will fit into the intersection,” he said.
“It’s the kind of job you want to do properly. It provides road access for a lot of different types of traffic … from a lot of different directions.”

He also confirmed no firm plans had been made as to what the new intersection would look like.
The specifics of the project will be available with the release of the Preferred Options Report, the results of which will be used to detail the intersection’s design.
RMS have confirmed they have engaged Jacobs to “to carry out an environmental assessment and develop concept and detailed designs for the Yoogali intersection upgrade”.
According to the RMS website, the scheduled upgrades will include:
- Upgrading and widening the current intersection to accommodate larger and longer vehicles
- Upgrading and widening the rail level crossing to meet current standards
- Utility relocations as necessary.
The intersection itself combines Irrigation Way, Mackay Avenue, Burley Griffin Way and Kurrajong Avenue.
