John Bortolazzo’s Back at the 19th golf report

IT WAS February monthly medal day at the Griffith Golf Club last Saturday - a single stroke with 67 players.

Peter Gill, 65 nett, won the A Grade medal, firing 78 off the stick, draining a birdie on the 14th. Andrew Romagnolo, 68 nett, was runner-up shooting 68 nett, nailing a birdie on the third.

The wind played havoc with the B graders and Duncan McWhirter won with a score of 75 nett, only able to par two holes, shooting 91, on a countback over Graeme Trevett, 75 nett. He also shot 91 with three pars.

Paul Josling, 66 nett, won C Grade, setting up his win with 42 on the outward nine in shooting 89 with five pars. Bill Carter, 71 nett, just kept it under 100, going around in 97 strokes with two pars.

Pro Pins won by Martin Sweeney and Jim Dickie. Par threes: Col Vearing won the Hanwood Butchery voucher on the 4th, 7th Jorge Woods, 11th and 16th, Brad Hammond.

Vouchers to 75 nett.

Sunday’s event was a 4BBB aggregate stableford and also the qualifier for the Brady Paint & Texture Memorial Red Gum Plate.

A disappointing field of 63 players contested the event which was once the most sort after title of the year.

Andrew and Lucas Kidd combined to card 76 points to win the day. Andrew birdied the 18th while Lucas carded four point pars on the second and third.

Grant Gyles and Andy Arnold, first with 72 points, second and in third place were Jeff Wiscombe and Craig Barrington 70 points, Barrington nailed a birdie on the ninth.

Vouchers to 68 points.

The qualifiers aare reminded the Calcutta is this coming Thursday at 8pm. Tickets available at the bar.

There was a single stableford in conjunction.

Neil Mahaffey, 38 points, won A Grade, Luke DeValentin, 35 points was second.

Andrew Kidd, 38 points, was best in B Grade on a countback over Jason Price.

Lucas Kidd, 38 points, won C Grade, with Grant Gyles 35 points, in second.

Paul Piccoli won the 7th pin, Andy Arnold 11th. Matt Staines eagled the 13th.

Vouchers to 34 points.

Club events: today, Saturday and Sunday are all single stablefords.

The first round of the Red Gum Plate must be competed by Sunday.

A good field of 40 players contested the veterans single stableford in three grades.

Gerry Cox, 36, won 0-18 Grade from Tony McBride, 35, on a countback over Joe Cudmore and Brad Fawcett.

Gary Purcell, 36, won 19-27 Grade on a countback over Mick Catanzariti and Graeme Gifford.

Cam Woodside won 28-36 Grade on 34 points over Mike Hedditch, 32.

Graeme Gifford won the 7th. pin. Vouchers to 32 points.

Veterans subs are due, envelopes on the bar. Another single stableford this week.

A two grade single stableford last Wednesday. Garry Hartnett, 38 points, won 0-18 Grade ahead of Gerry Cox, 33 points. Gareme Gifford, 34 points, won 19-36 Grade, Dick Thompson, 31 points, second.
