Return of a Griffith favourite
City to Lake is back again for another year, and organisers say it looks set to be bigger than ever.
Councillor Anne Napoli is on the organising committee, and shares her excitement the Griffith event is back again for it’s fifth year.
“It’s something that everyone was so excited about, saying they wanted to do it again, so we knew the support would be there for another year,” Cr Napoli said.
“It has been something Griffith has really embraced, taken ownership of really. It’s an event that show’s Griffith community’s spirit.”
The money raised will go towards the buying new equipment for the Griffith Base Hospital.
“Depending on how much money is raised, we will decide which equipment we can get after the run,” Cr Napoli said.
Judging from previous year’s events, Cr Napoli is aiming to hit around the $50,000 mark.
“Money raised in previous years went towards the St Vincents Community Private Hospital, but now that is up and running, it’s exciting to know that has been successful.”
“What is exciting about it is to see the two hospitals working together and sharing services benefiting our community, so that is what inspired me to do something for Griffith Base Hospital.”
While not running last year, the event looks set to be back on track for another successful fundraising event.
“We had the opening of the Private Hospital last year, we had a local government election, and by the time we got organised it was a bit too late,” Cr Napoli said.
“We have a small team on our committee and we all doing our part to make it all happen.”
She thanks Griffith City Council for their assistance in organising the daunting task of logistics, as well as both past and present sponsors who have rallied together to make it a reality.
Registration is open now online here.
The run will be held on march 11, as per past events, and will start at Ortella Street and go through to Lake Wyangan, with details released soon.
