Griffith City Library have become even more family friendly, with the refurbishing of the new Parent’s room complete.
With new pictures, covered couch, toys for older children, and most importantly a new change table, the room has been given a practical and bright face-lift.
After seeing the old room, Soroptimist member Wilma Cunningham approached other members of the group to ask for help to brighten it up.
“When my grandchildren lived here when they were little, and my daughter always used to go to the park, but when it was closed, there was no where to go and sit and feed the baby,” she said.

“So I came into the library to have a look at the parents room, and it was wonderful but it was a bit tired. I thought wound’t it be lovely if we could lift it up and make it happy and light.”
The Soroptimists were extremely supportive of the idea, and with the decorative flair provided by Collections Team Leader Rina Cannon, turned the room around.
Ms Cannon added the personal touches, and while enjoyed the process of transforming the room, is enjoying the reactions from parents even more.
“The response has been great, the parents love the room!” She said.
“When we had a chat with the mums at baby bounce and the mothers group and I put the word out and asked what they want and need, and the one thing they said we could provide a change table.”
Mum Jismi Jacob was amazed with the new room, saying she hadn’t seen anything that compared on the same level.
“In Banna Avenue its really busy and us parents with little ones can’t find a space like this, this room is really very good,” she said.
Ms Cannon sincerely thanks the Soroptimists for their support in helping to bring some practical brightness and enjoyment to the parents who use the room.
