Barellan's Jane Haeusler will represent NSW in the National Australian Made Foundation Cup

Barellan tennis player, Jane Haeusler will represent NSW in the National Australian Made Foundation Cup in January, winning her place on the state team after impressing selectors.

Haeusler qualified for the Foundation Cup through consistent results throughout 2017.

She won NSW Country Championships 12 years singles and doubles titles in July.

The talented youngster was crowned 14 years and under Champion for the South West region which entitled her to compete in the JDS State Final.

Haeusler was crowned runner-up in a closely contested match which went down to a third set tiebreaker where she fell 10-7.

Forming a part of the Australian Made Summer of Tennis, the Foundation Cup gives children 13 years and under from rural and regional Australia the opportunity to compete nationally.

The Foundation Cup will be held in Adelaide at the West Lakes Tennis Centre beginning January 7, 2018.

Haeusler said she is “super excited” to represent her state, saying it is a huge honour to be selected.

She set this as her main goal for the year, then trained and competed hard to secure her second place seeding in the four-member girls’ team.

The Foundation Cup provides a chance for rural and regional tennis players to compete nationally, which is something they may not be able to do often due to cost and travel constraints.

The other members of 2018 Girls’ team are India Schreiber, Lucy Tunsted and Paris Cagney. Haeusler is looking forward to be playing in a team environment, instead of an individual like in usual tournaments.

A team manager will mentor the girls during the tournament and be courtside during matches to give advice and support.

The 2018 Manager is Trudi Musgrave-Edwards, a former World Pro player and winner of numerous titles.

Haeusler hopes to use this opportunity to build her skills and develops her game to another level. Playing players for all other states and territories will enable her to do this.

Haeusler is 540th in the Tennis Australia women’s ranking, a list topped by Ashleigh Barty.
