Established in 1996, the business is a much-needed resource for animal owners, specialising in the sale of a broad range of animal feeds and supplements, saddlery and equine supplies, pet food and equipment, and clothing and footwear.
The business was established at 28 Mackay Avenue was was also a grain trader.
While her family owned the business, Phyllis Dart had not intended to work there, only joining during one harvest period when the then-manager left. She has been there ever since.
Griffith Feed & Grain relocated to 168 Wakaden Street in 2008, a site with better access, and a larger showroom area and warehouse space.
“We needed more space so we came around here to increase it,” Phyllis said of the move. “We just kept growing.”
Grain-trading didn’t continue after the move, but the business now offers warehousing services for either short-term or long-term requirements.
This advertising feature is supported by the following businesses:
It is now part of the DB Group and operated under warehouse manager Peter Jackson and retail manager Katrina Lok. Peter said the business had continued to grow and flourish.
“We have clothing lines from Ariat and Akubra brands, alongside Wrangler, as well as all supplies and accessories for pets,” he said.
“We are the largest stockist of saddlery and horse equipment in the region, for work and pleasure riding use.”
That broad range covers supplies and food for cats, rats, dogs, rabbits, goats, horses and alpaca to name just a few, as well as hand-rearing food for caged birds and kangaroos. Griffith Feed & Grain stocks the premium Blackhawk range of dog food and even stocks live crickets for reptile keepers.
Katrina said the business has evolved to meet customer requirements. “What we don’t have we can get in,” she said. “We are good at sourcing unusual requirements.”
Griffith Feed & Grain has installed a token-operated dog wash for public use that is open daylight hours, seven days a week.
The business will celebrate its anniversary on Saturday, November 18 with a sausage sizzle and giveaways, half-price dog washes, a broadcast by Hit99.7 and the draw of the month-long promotional raffle.
