Pre-season AFL football will not return to the Riverina next year.
AFL released the fixture for next year’s JLT Community Series on Thursday with no games scheduled for the Riverina or Southern NSW for the first time since 2009.
It brings to an end a good run of games for the region with nine pre-season games being shared between Wagga, Albury and Narrandera over the past eight years.
Last year, games were held in both Narrandera and Albury.
The AFL has scheduled a shortened pre-season series for 2018 with each clubs playing two games each.
The closest games will be in Canberra and Wangaratta.
AFL premiers, Richmond, will play Essendon in Wangaratta on Saturday February 24, while the Giants will be playing Collingwood in Canberra on Thursday, March 1.
