The opportunity to recognise women in the rice industry is almost over, with applications for the Jan Cathcart Scholarship for 2018 closing on October 14.
Two previous recipients, Elise Wilson from Coleambally and Sarah Cudmore from Griffith have spoken about the opportunities provided to them after receiving the scholarship.
The 2016 recipient Elise Wilson who grew up on a farm near Coleambally, said the scholarship is “a fantastic platform that has given me numerous opportunities to expand my work experience in marketing and Human Resources,” Ms Wilson said.
The program allowed Elise to meet many inspiring people, all of whom show passion and dedication to their work, and has many highlights from her experiences.
“A highlight was attending the RIRDC Rural Women’s Awards in Canberra last year, where we met extraordinary women and saw how significantly they are contributing to agriculture and their communities,” Miss Wilson said.
Miss Cudmore said the scholarship was a great honour, and was looking forward to finding out more about the rice industry and the women behind it.
The scholarship is open to those who are undertaking, or planning to undertake, tertiary studies are encouraged to apply.
It values women who have a commitment to a career in agriculture, involvement in work experience, community service, leadership potential and academic achievements.
Valued at $10000, the commemorative scholarship was launched in 2014, and has so far provided five women with opportunities including financial support to work experience and employment placements with SunRice and professional and personal growth.

Applications close on Saturday 14 October 2017, and the winner to be announced in early 2018.
