The Hawks scored more tries however it was their accuracy with the boat which let them down.
Both sides went through a feeling out process before Hawks’ Daniel Mihaere scored after being found out wide in the open.
It started a string of tries with Gerard Ah-Nau scoring for the Hawks while Benji Maiava scored for the Black and Whites.
The Panthers were able to take the lead into the break with Ziggy Vincent scoring just before halftime, and with Rossi Trimboli kicking the conversion they lead 12-8.
Shaquel Crowe extend the Black and Whites lead to 10 points before a double from Yanco-Wamoon’s D’andre Williams reduced the gap to two points but with both conversion missed the could have had the lead.
Trimboli then scored and converted his try before Jayden Little crossed for the second in quick succession to give them a 12-point lead with six minutes remaining.
Will Barnes crossed for a try under the post to give the Hawks a chance however it was too late as the Black and Whites came away with the six-point win.
Black and Whites’ coach Andrew Hoggart credited the way his side carried themselves during the game.
“I knew they had it in themselves and they went out there and did what they were supposed to do,” he said.
“Some little mistakes and penalties and things like that almost got the better of us, but in the end, we came away with a win, so it's good.”
