The 90 enthusiastic students all helped each other plant 30 native Callistemons and Melaleucas trees along the northern boundary of the school, which will act as a green corridor and windbreak.
For a personal touch, many of the trees have now been given names by the students, and all the trees have now become part of the Hanwood Public School family.
Susan McAllister, a teacher at Hanwood Public School, praised the program and the student’s zealous participation.
"It is very important for the children to value the environment and be able to leave their legacy for future Hanwood Public students to benefit from and enjoy,” she said.
