Griffith City Council, in collaboration with the National Relay Service, is providing a mechanism to enable people with a hearing or speech impairment to access council services.
The Australian Government’s National Relay Service (NRS) is a free service and allows people who are deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment to make phone calls with the help of a relay officer.
Depending on individual needs, callers are able to speak, sign or text, choosing from eight different call types with the relay officer acting as a link between the two parties.
A customer using the NRS is now able to call council and know that trained customer service staff will be able to effectively communicate with them via the NRS.
