MARRAR defender Jack Reynolds has been rewarded for his sensational start to the season with selection in the Farrer League representative team.
Farrer League selectors unveiled their final 22 at the team’s last training run at Maher Oval on Thursday night.
Reynolds, 18, is the youngest member of the Farrer League team and will start on a half-back flank, following a brilliant start to the year.
Reynolds made his senior debut in June last year and in less than 12 months time, has found himself ranked among the best player’s in the Farrer League.
“It feels pretty good, actually,” Reynolds said.
“It feels a little bit weird, being a young kid playing with older men but it’s good.
“To play at a higher level, one step above the Farrer League will be good. I’m looking forward to it.”
Reynolds played nine senior games for Marrar last year, while also starring in the under 17 competition, where he went on to win the David ‘Sandman’ Oehm Medal for the league best and fairest.
After growing up as a midfielder, new Marrar coach Shane Lenon swung Reynolds into defence this season.
It has proved a winner and Reynolds is loving life across half-back.
“I like the change in position to the backline,” he said.
“I get to read the game a bit and get my running game going through the backline.”
Farrer League representative coach Ryan Forsyth has been taken by Reynolds’ sharp improvement.
Forsyth initially saw Reynolds’ selection in the squad as reward for effort, but eventually could not keep him out of the starting 18.
“Jack’s come from nowhere. He’s gone from a bloke whose played some really good games so we named him in the squad, to someone who has been named in a starting position,” Forsyth said.
“He covers so much of the ground, which is so good.
“He continues to prove himself. Every week he comes up against quality opponents and seems to out run them every week. He gets plenty of the footy, uses it well and he’s not overawed by any situation.
“He gives 100 per cent, everything he’s got.”
Meantime in selection news, North Wagga midfielder Lachlan Highfield withdrew on Thursday after he was unable to free himself of work commitments.
In a bonus, talented East Wagga-Kooringal teenager Luke Cuthbert became available for selection after being free of other representative commitments.
Farrer League have named no shortage of attacking weapons, headed by Daniel Jordan and Matt Harpley in the key position posts.
