On behalf of the Leukaemia Foundation, I would like to say a big thank you to readers for their incredible support of World’s Greatest Shave this year.
The extraordinary people who shaved or coloured and their generous sponsors have now raised an incredible $4,920,000 in NSW alone, helping to fund projects that will make a genuine difference to local families facing blood cancer.
The money will now be used to provide safe and comfortable accommodation in the city for families living in regional NSW so they can more easily access life-saving treatment.
It also means we can offer free transport, counselling, information and practical support to the 60,000 Australians living with a blood cancer.
Meanwhile, researchers funded by our supporters are working tirelessly to discover safer and more effective treatments. Although their critical research is improving survival rates, sadly an Australian still loses their life to blood cancer every two hours.
But thanks to those taking part in World’s Greatest Shave, we are well on our way to reaching our goal of $5.6 million in NSW.

Night of family fun at the Caragabal Campoven Cookoff
The countdown is on until the family fun day of the year.
The annual Caragabal Campoven Cookoff is on Sunday, June 11 from 12 midday.
It is everything one would expect from a wholesome country shindig: cooking, family fun, music and a great big fire.
And organisers promise this year will be bigger and better than ever.
Events include gumboot throwing, tug-o-war, kids’ billy boiling competitions, wood auction and raffles.
There will be live music by Kerry Hodge and Matt Purcell, free camping at the sports ground and food available.
And of course the main event: the highly competitive campoven cookoff.
Last year’s entries included roasts, stews and deserts. But the winning dish was a chilli coconut crab with rice.
Those wanting to participate in the cookoff must have their entry cooked and plated by 5.30pm for judging.
Entry to the event is a gold coin donation with all funds raised going to the Caragabal Memorial Hall.
The campoven cookoff is just one of five annual fundraisers Caragabal hosts to raise money for the hall.
The hall was in such a state of disrepair a few years ago that a few locals created a committee to restore the 79-year-old building.

Fatality free friday
Griffith locals have been urged to pledge their support for road safety ahead of Fatality Free Friday, the nation’s largest community-based road safety initiative, on May 26.
Road users can take a digital pledge, as well as adding a yellow road safety ribbon to their profile picture on Twitter and Facebook, to show their commitment to reducing the devastating impact of road crashes on our communities.
