Griffith Tennis Club report

In Monday Night Ladies tennis, Kerber snuck past Stosur for victory in an even-sets match, winning by two games, and Azarenka ensured their top table run into finals against Wozniacki (6-0). These results set up a finals show-down between Azarenka and Williams for first and Kerber and Stosur re-playing the semis match for third.

In Tuesday Night Mixed tennis semis Nailed It continued to carve it up, leaving Unstoppable in their wake (6-0) and Tourists were too strong for Black Magic (5-1). Cougars had a tough battle to win against Aces (4-2) and Aggies stepped up to squash Schoolies (4-2). The finals will see Tourists take on undefeated Nailed It with a Fast 4 Championship played between Unstoppable, Cougars, Aggies, Aces and Schoolies.

In Wednesday Night Mixed tennis Hot Dates were too strong for Deuce Bags (5-1), Young Guns had a great match against Bits & Pieces (4-2) and Shud continued their dominance over Double Trouble (6-0). Super Cool crept past Pinnacle HPC to take the match in even sets, winning by one game and the Nice Gary girls played well against Whatever (3-3), off the back of their fantastic Riverina CHS title win – well done Elise and Chloe.

Griffith was well represented at the Bathurst AMT & JT Tournament recently, with coach Danny Dossetor playing great tennis to make the final of the AMT Men’s singles, narrowly missing the win in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. In the AMT Men’s Doubles Danny and Ben Mahlknecht made it through to the second round, unfortunately retiring from their next match. Ben also won his first round match in the AMT Singles. Bradley Clifford played through to the semi-finals of the 14 Boys consolation singles and Ben played through to the quarter-finals. In the 12 Girls Singles Jane Haeuslar made it through to the quarter-finals and Elise Townsend progress to the second round of the Ladies AMT Singles, going down in the next round. Thanks to Danny for taking the kids to Bathurst for the event and congratulations to all players. We wish our juniors best of luck for the next events on the circuit; the Tumut JDS followed by a High Performance training camp in Wagga which will provide opportunity for our Griffith juniors to be scouted by Tennis Australia.
