Patients from Griffith and the wider Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area can now benefit from improved imaging services following the opening of Regional Imaging’s radiology clinic at the new Griffith Medical Specialist Centre.
Formerly located at Griffith hospital, the new and upgraded clinic will offer a range of services, including 3D mammography, cardiac capable and low radiation dose CT scanning, ultrasound and general x-ray procedures.
Interventional procedures including CT-guided injections for pain management and ultrasound-guided biopsies will also be available with the only full-time onsite radiologist in Griffith, Dr Yune Kwong.
We have made a significant investment in the new clinic to ensure we offer the very best environment for patients.
- Regional manager Nic Carusella
Regional manager for Regional Imaging Nic Carusella said the clinic was proud to be able to provide the Griffith community with increased access to specialised medical imaging services.
“We have made a significant investment in the new clinic to ensure we offer the very best environment for patients, who will no longer have to travel two hours to Wagga to access specialised services, such as 3D mammography,” Mr Carusella said.

Dr Yune Kwong, who will lead the experienced team of local medical imaging technologists, sonographers and administration staff, said the new facilities would be a welcome addition to the community, particularly the 3D mammography service.
“3D mammography is an advanced version of traditional mammography, which allows us to examine breast tissue in great detail,” Dr Kwong said.
“It can improve the detection of invasive breast cancers by 40 per cent and significantly reduce the chance of ‘false positives’.
“Without a doubt, this enables us to deliver improved diagnosis so that effective treatment plans can be put into place sooner.
“This ultimately results in better patient outcomes for the community.”
The purpose-built clinic will be officially opened by Member for Farrer Sussan Ley at 5pm, Friday, May 12 with the medical community invited to attend and which will include a site tour.
Regional Imaging is part of the I-MED Radiology Network and has been a service provider in Griffith for over 30 years. The new clinic is located at the Griffith Medical Specialist Centre, 115-119 Binya Street, Griffith.
Accurate and quick technology
Breast tomosynthesis - which is also known colloquially as 3D mammography - is an advancement on the traditional mammogram.
It allows expert radiologists to quickly and precisely examine breast tissue in thin slices, typically one millimetre in thickness.
Breast tomosynthesis improves the detection of invasive breast cancers by 40 per cent and significantly reduces the number of “false positive” findings, decreasing the need for additional mammographic views.
