It has been a huge few months for Griffith girl Janae Rosa, but for her nothing can top the feeling of coming home and knowing the place where you grew up is behind you.
The talented musician was crowned Griffith’s Young Musician of the Year on Wednesday, following a fairytale 2016 that saw her impress the nation as a contestant on The X-factor.
Now studying song writing at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney Miss Rosa said she ‘had just been happy and grateful’ to be able to perform in front of friends and family during last week’s competition – never dreaming she would walk away with the trophy at the end of the night.
Miss Rosa’s rendition of The Sound of Silence, a Simon and Garfunkel song, blew the judges away on the night a performance she followed up with an impromptu rendition of an Ed Sheeran and Ray Charles mash up after the announcement of her win.
“It was just so amazing to be recognised by my community, it really means a lot to me,” she said.
