North Wagga coach Kirk Hamblin is predicting a much more competitive Barellan outfit in the Farrer League this season.
Club junior Cayden Winter made an impressive return for North Wagga on Saturday in the Saints’ 61-point win at Barellan.
The visitors got on top with five unanswered goals in the first quarter and then stuck to their guns to enjoy a comfortable 14.8 (92) to 4.7 (31) win.
“I was really happy with the way we played – we played the style of footy we want to play,” coach Kirk Hamblin said.
Along with Winter, Lachie Highfield was a standout for the Saints in a midfield that still has Corey Watt to come back in from a shoulder injury.

Alex Grozinger and Nathan Dennis both finished with three goals.
But Hamblin was full of praise for Barellan.
“They’ve improved a hell of a lot, they were set up a lot better than they were last year and I think they’ll go well under Jacko (coach Darren Jackson).”
New ruckman Will Prowse was Barellan’s best and fellow Canberra recruit Matt Bernasconi is still to come in to the side after he was unavailable for the season opener.
