With the Autumn racing carnival in full swing punters have the chance to try something a little different this Saturday at the annual Booligal sheep races.
With 125 sheep scheduled to compete in 25 heats of 25 metre sprints and all of them up for purchase for a bargain $50 each, organisers have encouraged all not to miss out on the chance to take home the coveted Booligal Cup and its accompanying $1000 in prize money.
“We like to think that the average punter can come to Booligal and enjoy the feeling of being a thoroughbred winner – albeit of the ovine variety,” secretary of the Booligal sheep races Sandra Ireson said.
“Those odds are better than you will ever see at Flemington or Randwick.”
Prizes at the race meet have taken a step up in 2017 with a road trip from Renmark last year resulting in a fairytale ending for the committee,
One Bob Clampet enjoyed himself so much he signed up to be a sponsor, donating a five-night stay on a luxury boat house.
The stay will be one of many items up for auction on the day, with proceeds donated to Can Assist and the Royal Flying Doctors.
