Carrathool Jockey Club President Mick Armstrong said all were happy to have avoided the dreaded ‘Carrathool curse’, which has seen four races cancelled in the past eight years but was nowhere in sight on Saturday, as an estimated 1200 punters made the trek out to the racetrack.
“It was a tremendous crowd for the day and there was a good atmosphere,” he said.
“It really seemed a lot better this year, a great crowd and with the horses running everyone seemed to be more into it.
“A big thank you to all of the sponsors they all contribute to the job and we can’t do it without them.”
Mr Armstrong said a clear highlight was trainer Trevor Sutherland’s unprecedented wins in all six races on the day.
The wins weren’t limited to the track however, with the fashions on the field also a fierce competition. Winners on the day included:
- Lady of the day, Sam Harrison
- Best Millinery, Tara-Rose Myers
- Best dressed gentleman, Will Ridge
- Belle of the Boughshed Tegan Muirhead
