
THE old saying “Mad dogs and Englishmen out in the noonday sun” was an apt description for the 34 golf fanatics who turned out to contest a single stableford at the Griffith Golf Club last Saturday.
Conditions were oppressive to say the least. Travis Payne reveled, taking out the 0-18 Grade, carding 40 points, nailing birdies on the 7th, 9th, 15th and 17th.
He went out In one under par 35 and carded an Eagle Two on the 15th.
Runner-up Martin Sweeney, 39 points, also found his mojo, firing one over par 72, canning birdies on the 1st and 5th to go out in one under par 35, birdied the 10th, bogied 12th, 13th and 14th, to shoot two over par 37 in.
Bill Brown 39 points won the 19-36 Grade, scoring 20 points out with a four point par on the 2nd then added another on the 13th, to add 19 home.
John Harrison 36 points second, carding 18 points on each nine and a four point par on the 12th.
Travis Payne and Tony McBride won the Pro Pins. Par threes, 4th.James Lethlean, 7th; Adrian Smith, 11th Jim Dickie and 16th Allan Andreazza.
Vouchers to 35 points.
Another two grade stableford on Sunday, a cooler day.
Brad Hammond, 38 points, won 0-18 Grade, carding 21 points out, drained a birdie on the 12th to add 17 in.
Graham Richens, 36 points, came second, improved on his 15 points out to add 21 home, nailing a birdie on the 16th.
Tim Rice, 38 points, won 19-36 Grade with splits of 17/21, over Sam Daniel 36 points, 15 out 21 in,a four point par on the 13th.
Byron James won the 7th. pin, Tim Rice 16th.
Vouchers to 34 points.
The Second Round of the Norm Saxvick, Bady Paint and Texture Memorial Red Gum Plate was also completed on Sunday.

Wednesdays and Saturdays events are both single stablefords, single stroke on Sunday.
Whilst ten veterans turned out on Friday, it was declared a no competition and the
Veterans will resume on Thursday, in a single stableford. Veterans sub must be paid by February 28.
