A steady start sees Toby Price sit in 17th position in the motorbikes category of the Dakar Rally.
The Roto native finished with a time of 29 minutes and 45 seconds after hitting the track first.
“It was pretty special to lead out the stage for the first time and to do it out of Paraguay was really good,” Price told tp87.com.au.
“Leading out the stage, I had a few dogs and wildlife on the track which slowed us down that little bit in the closing stages of the stage.”
Price trails leader Juan Pedrero Garcia by one minute and 23 seconds after the first stage.
It’s a position Price doesn’t mind being in at all.
“All in all, I feel like we had a pretty good stage,” Price told tp87.com.au.
“On paper, finishing 17th for the stage doesn't look the best but I’m really happy with where I’m at just one minute, 20 seconds off the lead.
Price will traverse the stage two lengthy leg from Resistencia to San Miguel de Tucumán tonight which would normally take nine hours by travelling on the roads in a car.
