Calabria Family Wines took home ten gold medals and eight silver medals after entering just over 20 wines in the AWC Vienna International Wine Competition this month, showing Griffith’s wine quality is on par with its international competitors.
The 2016 competition saw a record number of entrants with over 12,850 submissions from over 1800 producers.
Considering the high number of entrants head winemaker, Bill Calabria, said he was amazed with how well the products scored and saw the competition as a great opportunity to showcase the wine on an international scale.
“Out of nearly 13,000 entrants it is remarkable to walk away with ten gold medals and eight silver, the competition is a great platform to showcase our quality of wine outside Australia and get our name and Griffith’s name out there,” Mr Calabria said.
“A competition like the Vienna International Wine Competition is important for us to further establish ourselves on the international scale and showcase the standard of wine and wine making in the region.”
Not only were the medals a great result for the winery and the region but it was also a chance to highlight how winery's in the area have adapted and improved over the years when competing against harsh climates and varying soil qualities, Mr Calabria said.

Shiraz, 2014 Three Bridges Shiraz, 2013 Nine Stones Shiraz, 2014 Three Bridges Duriff, 2015 Calabria Private Bin Montepulciano, 2015 Calabria Private Bin Nero D'Avola, 2015 Cool Climate Tempranillo, 2015 Richland Chardonnay and 2013 Three Bridges Botrytis Semillon.
