After serving 16 years on council a humbled Cr Neville received Certificates of Service and was awarded the title of Emeritus Mayor in recognition of his long service to the Griffith community.
Cr Neville, who served as mayor from 2001 to 2004 and then as the first popularly elected mayor in 2008 to 2012, said it was a privilege to serve the community and appreciated the recognition.
“I am happy I have had the privilege to serve this community...and I genuinely feel we are lucky just to have a seat at the table,” Cr Neville said.
When Cr Neville was first involved with council he was focused on improving the educational opportunities available in Griffith and improving amenities for young people.
Whilst there is always an area for development Cr Neville said it has been rewarding to see the community grow and for goals to be achieved throughout his time on council.
Cr Neville said he hopes to be a role model to the younger generation and hopes to see more young people get involved with council because it is an opportunity to make the town better.
“”We need to be involved, we have to do our best to be available for the people of the community...it is about listening and making the town better,” Cr Neville said
“I geniuenly believe the people sitting around the table can make the town a better place.”
