GRAPA will perform ‘An evening of Shakespeare; scenes, sonnets and soliloquies' next week that will feature at least eight pieces of Shakespeare’s works.
GRAPA has been together for nine years now and director Stella Dougherty said the cast has gone from strength to strength over that time.
“This year's been different,” she said.
“While I'm the director, in many ways we've done it differently to push ourselves forward.
“We've been directing each other, which is the first time we've done this.
“It shows where all the actors have come to and It's actually exciting to see that happen.”
She said while they would like to perform all of Shakespeare’s plays in one sitting, it just wasn’t feasible.
“There was a realisation that we would never perform all his (Shakespeare’s) plays, and hit upon the idea of presenting a compilation of his works in what we call 'scenes sonnets and soliloquies’,” she said.
“There are thirty-four plays and we will never get around them all, so here is a way to give audiences a taste of some of his other works as well.
“Some of them we have performed and have loved, some are very famous; like the stirring speech of Marc Antony ... 'friends, Romans, countrymen’ from Julius Caesar after he has been murdered, and the beautiful speech of Hermione in the Winter's tale.”
She said there would be something for everybody, including love, comedy, revenge and politics.
“The weather is beautiful now and what could be better than a picnic outdoors with lovely local wines and some of the best works ever written, performed in a beautiful setting,” she said.
“That's what happens when we perform at Bidgee studios in October.”
‘An evening of Shakespeare’ will be held at Bidgee Studios on the Leeton Road and begin at 8pm on Thursday, October 22, Friday 23 and Saturday 24.
Admission is $25, concession $15, family ticket is $55 and children under 12 are free.
Tickets are sold on the night.
