Staff have been left in the lurch, only hearing of the company's demise when The Area News began asking questions.
It's bad news for local citrus growers as well, the last thing they need is less competition in the processing sector.
Summertime's story is the latest in a long line of losses for the city, which include the closure of the local Blackwoods store and Colla Brothers going under.
Add to this the fact the blood bank collection centre has closed and the CSIRO has also been earmarked and you get the feeling Griffith isn't travelling well.
When a business that has been around as long as Summertime goes under, something is terribly wrong somewhere.
Whether it was purely a case of bad management or market factors, one thing is for sure, the city and the families affected could certainly do without these job losses.
Locals are reeling from this latest news and what makes matters worse is the way staff members have been treated with utter contempt.
While not all, in most cases staff seem to be the last to know what is actually happening.
Of course, no one can blame businesses who, through no fault of their own end up folding.
It's hard to say where the answer lies, but if locals don't get behind businesses here in Griffith there isn't much hope for success.
It's time we all did our bit to stop more of our own being left jobless. We need to look at buying local at every turn.
It can't hurt and you never know, it might just help them stay afloat.
