Police rushed to Banna Avenue around noon after receiving several emergency calls reporting that a little girl was being assaulted.
There, they arrested a 26-year-old woman.
She is alleged to have picked her daughter up by the hair before punching her in the face.
The child suffered facial bruising as a result and was placed in the care of Family and Community Services staff.
Her mother has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
