AN Orange family has had an emotional reunion with their pet cat after it was injured in a horrific attack on Friday night.
Shadow, the domestic long haired cat, was shot in the head with an arrow that narrowly missed his right eye and grazed his skull.
Seven-year-old Makyah Landrigan cradled her car at Canobolas Family Vet Clinic as it sat bearing the scars of the surgery where veterinary surgeon Geoff Freeth removed the arrow.
"He sleeps on my bed with me every night and keeps me safe," Makyah said.
Her mother, Tracey Burns, said the family can't believe their pet has been saved.
"To the person who found him and Mr Freeth we just can't thank you enough," she said.
It is 11-year-old Bryson Landrigan's chore to feed the family cat before he leaves for school and when he returns home.
On Thursday night Shadow could not be found.
"I just kept calling him but he didn't come," he said.
Ms Burns said the family lives on the corner of March and Park Streets and at night there are sometimes disturbances outside.
"You can hear people who've obviously had too much to drink," she said.
Ms Burns said she is now concerned the person who has fired the arrow has done so in an area where there are many small children.
"What if this had happened in the day time around small children," she said.
"We are just so pleased to have him back - he's like one of the kids," she said.
Ms Burns said she was contacted by her brother who had seen the details of the family cat posted on the veterinary surgery's Facebook page.
If you have any information which could help the RSPCA track down the person responsible please call 1300 CRUELTY.
It is the second time this year that a cat has been shot with a bow and arrow.
