Raising money for the McGrath Foundation, the money this year will support the MIA’s own McGrath nurse Fiona Shields. As the only breast cancer nurse in the MIA, Mrs Shields is based in Griffith three days a week, but also covers surrounding towns such as Leeton, Hay, Hillston and Lake Cargelligo.
Exciting fundraising events are scattered throughout October, with the launch party shaping up as the place to be on September 27. This official opening will be held at 5.30pm at Griffith Regional Art Gallery.
The cast of Wicked will provide acoustic music in the Gallery, which will feature art displays, nibbles and wine to mark the start of Pink Up in Griffith.
Everyone is asked to “be ready” for the Pink Up Griffith committee on Monday, as they walk the streets pimping their Pink Up packs. Griffith Real Estate director and committee member Tony Santolin hoped to see everyone – whether they wear suits, aprons, sneakers or hi-vis to come on board.
“I’d like to see businesses, sporting groups and even schools get involved,” Mr Santolin said.
“We also have special packs for tradies, farmers, truckies or anyone who owns or operates machinery to pink up their utes, trailers and machinery. Anyone can be part of Pink Up, simply hold a pink themed fundraiser and donate any funds raised.”
Griffith City Council is also on board supporting the city-wide effort, with Mayor John Dal Broi saying this was “a fantastic cause.”
