ONE of the major sources of pride for the Yenda community is the fact it is home to what has become one of Australia’s most successful winemaking families.
Casella Family Brands has called the town home since 1965 when founders Filippo and Maria Casella bought land near the township and grew grapes for local winemakers.
The family had immigrated to Australia in 1957 with a family history of winemaking dating back to 1820.
From that initial grape growing, the family grew into wine making. However, wine making needed a winery and in 1969 the Casella family winery was born.
The Yenda winery is now the largest wine processing facility in Australia, capable of crushing more than 120,000 tonnes of grapes during a single vintage (source: The Australian and New Zealand Wine Industry Directory, Winetitles Media 2018).
The Casella Family Brands bottling line is now one of the fastest in the world and is able to process about 36,000 bottles an hour.

Casella Family Brands continues to support Yenda grape growers, sourcing fruit from 27 families in the sub-region. Last year they grew close to 6600 tonnes of grapes.
In 2001 Filippo’s son and company managing director John Casella created the [yellow tail], which has grown to become the number-10 wine brand in the world, and was the only Australian brand to make the top 10 (source: International Wine and Spirits Record 2017)
With its distinctive yellow-footed rock-wallaby label, Casella Family Brands exports more than 12-and-a-half million cases of [yellow tail] to over 50 countries around the world each year.
The company has a portfolio of fine wine including the Casella premium range of wines, Peter Lehmann Wines from the Barossa, Brand’s Laira of Coonawarra, Morris Wines of Rutherglen and Baileys of Glenrowan.
