Funding was allocated as part of the Stronger Communities Fund. The fund sees $1.3 billion set aside for the NSW Government’s Regional Growth Fund.
Mr Evans said the government’s significant investment in the Griffith area will provide residents with improved facilities the whole region can enjoy.
“Our community has been calling out for upgrades to the Memorial Park facilities in the middle of Griffith and I’m thrilled these can now be carried out,” Mr Evans said.
“Stronger Country Communities funding is an investment in local infrastructure to improve the lives of residents and enhance the attractiveness of our region – this funding will help us do exactly that,” Mr Evans said.
Council’s General Manager Brett Stonestreet confirmed the refurbishments will include a face-lift of the existing amenities block, the construction of a small community stage at the eastern end of the park.
“There are also plans to give us better connectivity between railway street and the park,” he said.
Also on the cards is an “active space” over by the amenities block, which will include a large chess set.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor John Dal Broi thanked Member for Murray Austin Evans for his support for these significant community projects.
“This is fantastic news for Griffith and surrounds. This funding provides Council with the opportunity to improve facilities and deliver benefits to our community and visitors,” Cr Dal Broi said.

Griffith isn’t the only town in the area to benefit from the funding.
Half of the grant is provided for a series of footpaths through Yoogali, Yenda, Hanwood and Griffith itself.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the state government is committed to supporting Griffith and the communities around it in maintaining and upgrading infrastructure
“The Stronger Country Communities fund is a once-in-a-generation investment and it will provide regional towns such as Griffith with the infrastructure they deserve,” Mr Barilaro said.
