This year, they want to share that knowledge. 

There’s truly a lot happening in cotton growing right across the MIA. Their upcoming field day hopes to showcase just that. 

Matt Toscan says everyone is invited to the Southern Valleys Cotton Growers Association field day in Darlington Point on March 27. 

He says the day will make for a good networking opportunity, as well as a chance to see some new methods of farming. 

“We thought the award was a pretty good excuse to have the field day out at out place,” he said.

After growing their first cotton crop just seven years ago, the Toscan family already have achieved impressive results. 

Their properties, known as Cavaso Farming, works as an irrigated cropping enterprise on 4200 hectares across eight properties at Darlington Point and Coleambally. 

“It’s the opportunity to network with experienced growers,” Mr Toscan said. 

“It’s more than to see what we’re doing. You never know what tips you might pick up from other people you speak with on the day.”

The field day will include a bus tour to look at the layouts of the farm. 

Mr Toscan said there are a few things happening on the farm people may find interesting. 

“We have some equipment modifications, different and new ways of using equipment,” he said. 

“People might be also be interested in the layouts. We’ve converted from siphons to bankless channels.”
