While government schemes may not always be the easiest things to get your head around it appears the Active Kids Rebate has broken the trend.

Once parents are registered with Service NSW, they are able to receive their $100 voucher to provide to their approved sport or physical activity club or organisations.
Active Kids is an initiative of the 2017-18 Budget and will not be means-tested. It supports the Premier’s Priority to reduce overweight and obesity rates of children by five percent over 10 years. Parents have until December 31, 2018, to claim and use their voucher at sport.nsw.gov.au/activekids or by calling Service NSW on 13 77 88.
The Griffith Swans Junior Club is one of the many from around the area taking advantage of the scheme, and President Paul Rogerson has been surprised by the ease of access.
“For a new scheme like this it has been very easy for the clubs and the parents to get access to it,” he said.
“The ease of getting access is pretty clear when you look at the numbers.”
Just from the junior Swans, 55 players out of 70 registered have taken advantage with 26 of 29 players from under 11s, in particular, using the rebate.
“It is a pretty high percentage, and it has certainly helps a heap of families,” he said. “We know that even some of those who didn’t use them for us have used the rebate on other sports.”
Member for Murray Austin Evans said he is thrilled so many families in Griffith are using their $100 voucher through the NSW Government’s Active Kids Program when registering their children with clubs, such as the Griffith Junior Swans.
“No parent should have to second guess if they can afford this year’s sport and other fitness activity fees. We want to get kids moving and remove barriers to playing sport,” he said
“I know from my own experience that the cost of kids’ sport and activities can really add up. It is great that so many families are using the program, which no doubt will make a difference in easing the cost of living pressures.”
Registrations are still open for Junior Swans and Auskick with training held on Wednesday afternoons starting at 5pm.
