While setting personal goals for times is an excellent way to get motivated, Patterson had another tip for those looking to walk, run or ride the 9km track from Jubilee Oval to the Lake Wyangan picnic area.
“One of the goals should be to finish with a smile,” she said.
“I was told this at an event I did a while ago, and I thought it was really good advice.”
As for other helpful pointers, Patterson said simple things like remembering a hat and not going too hard too early would also help get participants over the line.
Patterson who finished third in her category during the last running of the City2Lake said the Griffith event has many things working in its favour which makes it different from other fun runs.
“The good thing about it is there are different categories for participants,” she said.
“It makes it different from other events with it broken up into age groups and genders.”
The Griffith runner is using this event as a training run as she prepares to take a longer event down in Victoria.
“A group of us girls did the Wangaratta half marathon, and then we will be doing the Bacchus event here in Griffith in a couple of weeks,” she said.
“We are preparing to take on the Great Ocean Road marathon in May.”
The Griffith City2Lake will get underway at 8am on Sunday at Jubilee Park before the runners set off on the nine-kilometre run to Lake Wyangan starting with the cyclists then the runners and finishing with the walkers.
In the past, the funds raised from the fun run have gone to assist with the construction of St Vincent’s Private Hospital. Now the private hospital is complete, funds from the March 11 event will support Griffith Base Hospital.
Buses will be available to take participants back to the starting point starting at 10am and entertainment will be provided on the day by Griffith band The Luxtones. Food will be available, with catering by the Griffith Lions Club and the promise of an ice-cream truck on site.
