Riverina Lions and Griffith enjoy opening night wins in Southern NSW AFL Women's competition

It may have been a brand new competition but it was the seasoned Riverina Lions that got off to a winning start in a historic night of Australian rules on Friday night.

The Lions thumped Cootamundra by 68 points in the opening game of the inaugural Southern NSW AFL Women’s competition at Gumly Oval.

Griffith defeated Snowy Mountains Bears by 14 points in the second game. It was both team’s first ever official game of women’s football.
