Ms Spicer’s exciting visit comes about after being invited to be guest speaker at an International Women’s Day Breakfast hosted by Soroptimist International Griffith on Wednesday March 14.

Griffith’s Soroptimist International president Sonia Casanova said they proud and excited to host Tracey Spicer as their guest speaker at this year’s breakfast.

“Tracey is renowned for the courage of her convictions, passion for social justice, commitment to equality, and her wicked sense of humour - and she truly reflects the powerful International Women’s Day theme of ‘leave no woman behind,“ Ms Casanova said.

Last year’s guest speaker was Detective Superintendent Deborah Wallace, who had her audience enraptured with funny, inspirational, motivational and heartbreaking stories.

Known as the ‘gang buster’ Ms Wallace, who is commander of the NSW Police Force’s Gangs Squad and Strike Force Raptor, spoke about women needing to change nothing about themselves to be on top, in line with the theme of ‘Challenge the Glass Ceiling.’

Ms Spicer will continue to spread these kinds of messages of inclusion and empowerment, with this year’s theme of ‘leave no woman behind,’ bringing her own interesting stories and experiences to share.

In January this year, Ms Spicer was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia ‘for significant service to broadcast media as a journalist and television presenter, and as an ambassador for social welfare and charitable groups.’

She works as a columnist for Fairfax, presentation trainer for Outspoken Women, and the Australian Film, Radio and Television School, and media trainer at Spicer Communications. She appears regularly as a commentator on ABC TV and Channel 9.

Ms Spicer has written, produced, and presented documentaries for NGOs in Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Papua New Guinea, and India, and the National Breast Cancer Foundation in Australia.

She is an Ambassador for ActionAid, World Vision, NSW Cancer Council, QUT’s Learning Potential Fund and SISTER2sister, and Patron of the Pancreatic Cancer Alliance.

Ms Spicer’s essays have appeared in dozens of books, and her first book The Good Girl Stripped Bare, became a bestseller within weeks of publication in April 2017. Her TEDxTalk The Lady Stripped Bare has attracted more than 2.5 million views.

A mother of two, she is also the co-founder and national convener of Women in Media, a nationwide mentoring and networking group, backed by the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance.
