Police from the Traffic Task Force caught two trucks speeding in a road work zone on Sturt Highway in Carrathool at about 3pm on Sunday February 18.

Police officers were travelling along the Highway when they saw a heavy vehicle travelling toward them. In an 80km/h road work speed zone, the heavy vehicle was detected on radar at 101km/h.
The vehicle was stopped and driver spoken to. He will be issued an infringement notice for Class C vehicle for exceeding the speed limit by over 10kmh, entailing a fine of $462 and three demerit points.
While Police were completing their paperwork, a second heavy vehicle, which was a car carrier, was detected on radar at 94kmh in a 60kmh road work speed zone.
This second vehicle was stopped and the driver spoken to. He was also issued an infringement for Class C vehicle exceeding the speed limit by over 30kmh, entailing a fine of $1358 and five demerit points.

In other news, police from Griffith Local Area Command have undertaken Operation Drink Drive One in the MIA over the course of the weekend from Friday until midnight Sunday.
General Duty officers and Highway Patrol officers have conducted over 3700 random breath tests, and issued four seat belt restraint related tickets, 42 speeding infringements and 51 tickets for other offences.
Only eight people in the region have been charged with alcohol related offences.
One incident detailed a 29-year-old male who was charged for blowing a whopping 0.208 in Griffith on Verri Street, and was charged with high range prescription of alcohol.
