Today she’s in remission and determined to help others.
On the same day four years later, Ms Coster and her son Damian shaved their heads to support Cancer Council. Her daughter Carrie will join them, shaving her head for charity this Saturday.
Ms Coster said her daughter was the inspiration for the move.
“Carrie really kicked it off. Earlier this year we found out she was having a tough time dealing with what we’d been through … so she figured why not turn a negative experience into a positive one?” Ms Coster said.
“She decided to start fundraising and my son and I wanted to join in. Cancer was something we went through as a family and this was something we wanted to do as a family as well.”
Ms Coster and her son held a breakfast for work colleagues last week and a local barber offered his time and services.

Mr Coster wound up with more than just a shaved head.
“My son also had his eyebrows and half his beard shaved,” she said.
“He looks great!”
“Tristan [the barber] was fantastic. We really can’t thank him enough for all the work he put in and the time he gave us … He really got the crowd pumped up,” she said.
The family have raised over $2000 so far, but are still looking for donations.
“We chose to donate to the Cancer Council because of the good work they do. They don’t just support the person battling with cancer, they offer support for friends and family too,” she said.
