A kayaker discovered the body downstream of Wagga Beach about 7pm and notified emergency services.
A police spokesperson said the body is believed to be that of a 66-year-old man, however, no formal identification has been made.
A postmortem examination will be carried out in the coming days to determine the cause of death.
Inquiries are continuing.
The incident comes after 28-year-old man Mark Timms drowned in the river last month.
Since 2002-03, there have been 21 confirmed drownings in the Murrumbidgee River, including 10 in Wagga, making it one of the country’s deadliest waterways.
