He four paintings – including a much-admired portrait of her grandmother Mary – also won her the prestigious S&S Creativity award at Friday’s ArtExpress launch.
ArtExpress is an exhibition featuring a selection of outstanding student artworks developed for the art making component of the HSC examination in art subjects.
Griffith Regional Art Gallery Coordinator Ray Wholohan said Isabella’s award recognises the young artist whose work demonstrates the most creativity across a variety of mediums.
The award is named after S&S Wholesale Art Supplies, who are major sponsors of ArtExpress.
Isbaella’s grandmother Mary was at the ArtExpress Friday launch to see Isabella’s depiction of her.
Also present were Griffith mayor John Dal Broi, Councillors Rina Mecuri and Anne Napoli, Riverina state schools director David Lamb and gallery manager Raina Savage.
Isabella’s work, titled “inevitability of nature”, explores family, memories and the natural cycle of life. It was selected ahead of the thousands of entrants across NSW for the ArtExpress exhibit.
“It’s important to pick something that really inspires you, and to experiment with as many mediums as possible,” she said.
Only two other Riverina students had their art displayed at the exhibition.
ArtExpress work is on display at Griffith Regional Art Gallery, which is located at 167 Banna Avenue, Griffith. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Friday 10am to 5pm and weekends from 11am to 2pm.
