Plus-size model pioneer Chelsea Bonner was the special guest as Griffith celebrated it’s 30th annual Australia Day breakfast at Pioneer Park on Friday morning.
“I had the choice of a number of places to go, but when I looked up Griffith I said ‘this is my sort of town’”.
“I’m a country girl myself, so Griffith with its farms and vineyards really appealed”.
Ms Bonner, founder of the revolutionary fashion business Bella Management, spoke to the big crowd in attendance after being introduced by Griffith mayor John Dal Broi following the traditional flag raising ceremony.
Both the Australian and Aboriginal flags were raised.
Pioneer Park Museum co-ordinator Jenny O'Donnell-Priest said this is the 30th anniversary of the park hosting the breakfast.
“We hosted the event for the first time in 1988, the bicentennial year”.
“The breakfast is really important as it raises funds to support the museum. We wouldn’t be able to do it without the support of all our sponsors and the volunteers who work here”.
“Volunteers have run the museum for 47 years now.”
Eleven-year-old Ashley Robinson was thrilled to be able to attend the breakfast with her mum and brothers.
“It means a lot to me. Australia Day reminds us we should all look after our country. We should always keep having it”.
The breakfast at Pioneer Park was followed by train rides and tours, children’s old fashioned games, jumping castle, Jeff Gardner’s Country West performing and bush dancing.
