Residents alerted police when they saw two males walking on Erksine Road carrying an assortment of items.
Police then located a man in Garton Place, with a number of electrical items, jewellery and other belongings found after a search of the surrounding area.
Police then attended a home in Yarrabee Street after finding the items, and while nobody was home, they noticed the home was open and obviously stolen from.
Chief Inspector John Wadsworth praised the help of the Griffith community.
“Thanks to their help, police were able to attend the scene in a timely manner,” he said.
The young man is also believed to have been involved in a break and enter on Collarene Avenue occurring between 7.30pm and 10.30 pm yesterday (Thursday January 18).
The resident left her unit with another family member, and upon their return home found the front screen door open, with the glass smashed in the front door.
They discovered laptops, jewellery and other items had been stolen from their home.
The young man was arrested by police charged with being in custody of stolen goods and two accounts of break and entering.
He was refused bail and is set to appear before Leeton Children’s Court.
