Held on January 28 as part of the Commonwealth Games, the relay recognises the achievements of those in the community, who are given the honour of carrying the Queen’s message and representing their family and friends.
“I feel very humbled, but very excited at the same time,” she said.
“There is only so many that are selected to take part, and I am very honoured to have the opportunity to take part.”
While having only recently moved to Benerembah, Mrs Dissegna is proud to be chosen to represent the Griffith community.
“It’s quite interesting, because when I was nominated by people from Albury-Wodonga, which is where I used to live,” she said.
“While I am still very much new to the town, I am very excited to be a baton bearer here in Griffith, and I know my husband and a lot of his friends and family will come along to support me.”
After seeing her Grandfather volunteer in the rotary club growing up, she was given the taste of enjoying the volunteer life early, and seeks to continue to pursue these events.

“Having done a lot of volunteer work in the past, I guess it stems from going back to when I was a child, my grandfather was very active in rotary, and it sort of progressed from there.”
Mrs Dissegna was a rotary exchange student, then got involved with Rotaract in Sydney in her time living there, as well as being a part of the new Rotary Club in Albury-Wodonga.
Since being in Griffith, she has been involved with the annual koala count in Narrandera, as well as helping out the Dissegna family volunteer at the Sacred Heart Church fete, joining the family’s barbecuing efforts.
Watch Mrs Dissegna run at 5.07pm at the top block of Banna Avenue, and with the rest of the baton bearers along Banna Avenue and Kookora Street from 4pm.
