Binya Community held a stall in aid of Multiple Sclerosis at the markets, and raised $1473 for the MIA Multiple Sclerosis Group.
Member of the Binya Community Jan Evans was thrilled with the amount raised, praising volunteers and those who came and purchased goods from their stall.
“It is a marvelous amount of money raised, we couldn’t be happier,” Ms Evans said.
“There was a fantastic effort from our volunteers and supporters, and as we had several people purchasing goods from out of town, I would like to acknowledge their support as well.”
This was the first year the markets were run by Barellan Aged Care Support, who took over from the Barellan Museum.
Treasurer Katie McDermott praised the Binya Community’s “magical” efforts, and said the event was also a great success for them, setting the precedent for a yearly event.
“It was absolutely great! We had a lot of great feedback, especially from out of town, market holders from Griffith, we got more of a broader range of market products, it was a great way to start the yearly tradition.”
She said the proceeds will go a long way to landscaping two new aged care units, which are well on their way to completion.
“It was a great success, we ended up making the $1400 mark, which will go towards grass seeds, plants and landscaping for the units,” Ms McDermott said.
Colleen O’Grady helped Ms McDermott organise the markets, and said it was great to see the Barellan community come together in a strong force of support.
“We had around 20 stalls, ham raffles, and Santa Claus came for the children, everyone had a great time throughout the day,” Ms O’Grady said.
