The 30-year-old Price crashed out of last year's race in stage four, which left him with a broken leg.
After the third stage which saw Price ride from Pisco to San Juan De Marcona in Peru, the endurance rider now sits in third position in his category sitting three minutes and 28 seconds behind first place.
Price took to social media to give his fans an update on how he felt he was progressing.
“I felt comfortable and I'm really starting to gel with my bike,” he said.
“We had a tip over around 140km mark, dropped off a small sand dune and lost a lot of fluid and filled my road book up with sand! Ready for tomorrow!”
